THE ONETEASPOON GUIDE TO BYRON BAY

Sun kissed skin, salt dried hair, we’re on Byron time now baby.

Escaping the grid lock of Sydney, the OneTeaspoon team kick-started Summer with a getaway to the picturesque Byron Bay. With on-duty time spent inside the OneTeaspoon pop-up boutique building walls of denim, hanging chains, and preparing for the congregation of our global teams, off-duty time was spent soaking up Vitamin D, exploring the local goods, and drinking our bodyweight in cocktails. This was a lifestyle we could become accustomed to. Read on for our tips on the best places to crash, to get coffee, to shop up a storm, and get washed away.

STAY

Capturing the essence of a true Byron Bay getaway, The Byron at Byron offers a total oasis from the outside world – a home away from home. Paying homage to the laid back Byron Bay lifestyle, the Byron at Byron is shrouded in greenery, boardwalks, and lush rainforests. The entire OneTeaspoon team were lucky enough to be nestled up in this humble abode for six luxurious nights, and we just couldn’t get enough. A ten-minute walk gets you down to the beach, or if jungle treks aren’t your thing, opt for cocktails in the pool area, complete with sun beds, fire pits, and a spa. The rooms were light and airy yet fully screened, giving outside nature vibes, minus the mosquitoes. Absolute bliss.

In the mornings you could find half our team discovering their inner zen with dreamy yoga classes in the rainforest, the other half were planted at the buffet breakfast sipping on Bloody Mary’s and lining their stomachs with bacon and eggs ready for round 3. In true OneTeaspoon style by 3pm we were all sprawled out in the poolside day beds, cocktails in hand, and mildly drunk. If you can spare an hour and really want to recoup, book yourself in to The Spa – you won’t regret it. 6 nights later and we were feeling almost relaxed enough to head back to the big smoke.

EAT

In a converted weatherboard cottage sits our daily port of call for caffeine and snacks, Folk Café. This cool little café is the perfect spot to start your day Byron style, with a local organic plant-based menu, old-school enamel kitchenware, and kitsch 70’s era ceramics. Better yet, it’s located just around the corner from our pop up store in the Habitat Commercial Precinct. Grab yourself a beetroot latte and come say hello!

A local favourite and a must-do for Byron is little rustic café, Bayleaf. Situated in the heart of town, Bayleaf pride themselves on sourcing locally and organically. Soak up the sun and people watch on the outside tables, but be warned, this place fills up fast – Everyone wants a bit of these Instagram worth lunches that are easy on both the eyes and the belly.

Last but not least, definitely spare a second to visit The Farm. Encompassing that Australiana woolshed vibe, the Farm is a cluster of buildings with a bakery, providore, florist, restaurant and bar, surrounded by produce fields.

SHOP

Utterly cool and endlessly desirable, Byron Bay lives up to its reputation for having it all: shopping, beaches, and good food. Some of our favourites to hit while you’re in town are Spell & The Gypsy Collective, Nikau, Hope & May, and Ahoy Trader. One place you can’t miss is the latest addition to Byron, Habitat, a creative hub with some of Byron’s best offerings. Nestled in the Commercial Precinct, Habitat has a delectable selection of boutiques and eateries, the OneTeaspoon pop up store included. Our Byron Bay store will be open until the end of February so make sure you check it out before it’s gone.

SWIM

Crystal clear waters, palm leaves, rolling waves – a swim at Wategos Beach is a must and is an office favourite. Arguable one of Australia’s best beaches, this little slice of paradise is haven for surfers and swimmers alike. Pack up a picnic, grab your boards, and get settled in for the day – this is one spot you won’t want to leave.
